Misrepresenting Kerry's positions to make political hay is common practice in the Bush campaign.
The right-wing media has, for the most part, participated in the effort.
But even Chris Matthew's get's upset when his show is used as fodder for distortion.

I love Chris Matthews! He doesn't put up with the bullshite. I think it's time Bush came clean and starting campaigning in an honest way for a change. This is getting more and more ridiculous. I can't wait to see what smears the Bush campaign will come up with next. Let me guess....... Oh yeah, Kerry once masturbated when he was a teenager. LOL. These Bush supporters are such losers aren't they?

from http://conservativesforkerry.com/conspeakout.html
Confusing partisanship with principles, these folks seem to believe that it's just a conservative's duty to support a Republican President, no matter what the President does. Even when the President oversteps his executive authority, even when the President encourages judicial activism, even when the President disrespects the armed forces, even when the President runs record budget deficits, even when the President designs new big government entitlement programs, even when the President spends taxpayer money like there's no tomorrow, even when the President erodes our most beloved American freedoms, even when the President lies to the American public.
How can a conservative refuse to support George W. Bush? The real question is how a conservative can stomach having a man like George W. Bush in the White House.
If we conservatives can step back and be honest with ourselves for just a moment, we'll see that George W. Bush has done everything we used to get furious at Bill Clinton for doing... only worse.

They're all full of crap when it comes to campaigning.

Any true american should stand against the big business BS, the loss of freedom, the "gubment knows best" bullshit and stand up for their rights and freedoms. A true american would want a leader that is straightforwards with them instead of just making decisions based on his own convictions, is not in bed with god knows how many businesses and doesn't alienate allies.
Any human being would be opposed to this, too: http://www.askquestions.org/articles/teens/

So what you're saying Nihilantic is that John Kerry is completely unsuitable as President? He's in bed with big business LITERALLY, he supported the Homeland Security Bill, he beats around the bush and flip-flops, and he would alienate allies by imposing unfair restrictions on trade.
Now, what I've said above is true, but it doesn't mean Kerry would make a bad president. Bush has faults as well, but that doesn't mean he's a bad President either. Basically all the things you listed there are a GIVEN...ANYONE who has a chance of winning MUST do all of those things in one way or another.

Of course Bush is a bad president! How can you possibly think otherwise? In case you are not aware or live in a tunnel somewhere, we are WORSE off than four years ago.
