Did a Vale Tudo class tonight and found out something very interesting.
During GnP, having someone raining down blows, even at light contact, is massively intimidating.
Even more so than the full contact escrima I've done.
I kept retreating into covering my face up, only rarely remembering what I was supposed to do to properly defend.
Is this a common problem, or am I just a complete *****?
Your latter suggestion is t3h correct.
serious harm

As a guess, for one of the first response on this thread, I'd guess you don't sound like a *****,; it's not good to get GnPed. I could be wrong though.

Is it supposed to be fun getting slammed in the face? If it is I missed something.

Probably designed to keep you from being pounded in the first place. It's like "Scared Straight" but for MMAtists.
That's why being mounted is bad.

Yup it's pretty spooky. It'll pass when you (and me! :D) learn to defend it better.

I found it rather hard not to... i was training with a regular on the SFUK fight circuit. I'm so glad it was light contact...
lol, I bet.
I know what you mean though, it's not nice.

GnP huh ....... you could have used an eye gouge.
yeah its not the worlds best experience....however *fear* and *intimidation* just goes away partly over time and as you get better.
I have a similar problem, I still knee up back, trap, bridge and roll, but when it doesn't work I keep doing the same damn thing at the wrong times.
And I blink whenenver a strike lands. Damn annoying, that gives them plenty of time to do it again.
I think the fact that GnP has been responsible for many blood lips and sore spots on the head indicates you're not a *****. You and I are both still doing it, right?
It just means we're both stupid and like getting hit! :D

umm, is there a MAist that this doesn't apply too?
I think we are all gluttons for punishement and need our heads examined...
that being said, yeah I completely lose focus at that point too... I think most people do at least at first...
but I'm allowed to be a *****, I'm a girl dammit
Don't forget the groin bite . . .
