Yeah, I'll agree that people here don't always get along.
But I get trolled a lot more than anyone else.
I don't know about anyone else, but one episode that sticks firmly is my mind is one point, I forget exactly when, when you suggested that a black belt could be awarded in part due to tenure and time invested in learning that art.
That struck me as a fundamentally problematic statement. That kind of thinking, it seems to me, would contribute directly to McDojoism, since it means that someone who has spent the time (i.e. payed the fees) deserves their ranking even if their hand to hand combat is absurd.
Even if we are talking about someone who is explicity a cultural performer the length of time they have been doing cultural performance shouldn't necessarily mean anything. If you spent a long time, say, demonstrating Chinese opera acrobatics, but you're so fat and weak you can't do any acrobatic moves, then you still aren't a very good cultural performer.

You tell me greese, which of my techniques are bad?
Have you seen any of them? Have you even met me? Have you seen my school? Have you trained under my Sensei?
I don't know, spunk slurper, why don't you meet up with me and show me?

That is because you are the dumbest poster here, far surpassing Hannibal.

We would be happy to oblige if you would simply answer the following questions:
Where do you live?
Why did you say you lived in New Zealand?
Why did you say you lived in Indiana?
Why did you say you lived in Dallas?
Why did you say you've been training with your sensei for a year if you just moved to Dallas?
Why did you say you weigh 250 pounds?
Why did you say you have a slender build?
Why did you say you would fight greese?
Why do you refuse to fight greese?
1. I don't tell people where I really live online.
2. See #1
3. See #1
4. See #1
5. I lied to you.
6. That was true (although I weigh 275 now)
7. I do (I really don't look my weight, if you can believe that)
8. I didn't (it was the other way around)
9. I've got better things to do than travel to fight someone who doesn't agree with me on an internet message board.
You agreed to fight me.
You are just saying that because you live pretty damn close to me.

Actually, I was just referring to the fact that, at least in my highschool, all the kids that nobody liked started dressing all in black and getting into Wicca and stuff. I assume it was because that way they could tell themselves that their decisions to be unique individuals were responsible for the fact that no one liked them, thereby giving them a feeling of control over the situation, when in fact the reason nobody liked them was because they were incredibly annoying. And generally whiney ass bitches.

So, in other words, you lie, and then you complain, and then you equivocate.
Honestly, don't you think that would annoy people?

Veridian, Veridian when are you gonna learn? In life there are going to be times when people don't agree with you let alone like you, there's no need to be vindictive.
I'm very flattered that you think that bunyip would want to be so friendly with me but sadly neither I nor him are into such activity.
Now take your whiney bitch ass back to where it came from, stop exposing everyone on this site to your fucked up, ugly mug that you parade around as if you don't know your head is the roughest piece of flesh your mother ever pushed out her gap, next to your dick and shut the **** up.

Thank you for bringing this up wounded ronin, that reminds me of another point I needed to make about that.
A few thoughts.........
As you pointed out I said "in PART due to tenure"
"Spent the time (i.e. payed the fees)"???? These are not the same, but you use them as if they are interchangeable.
"deserves their ranking even if their hand to hand combat is absurd" I didn't say that, that's the other PART of it.
And lastly, If you want to completely throw out time invested as a requirement for BB, you can not ridicule schools who give out BBs in 2 years or less. Expecting someone to study in the art for a long time to get to BB for a long time does NOT contribute to Mcdojoism. You've got it backwards.
Veridian likes this standard...that is the only way loser ass faggots like him can get a black belt.
Holy **** Veridian, you weigh 275? What, are you seven and a half feet tall?
Or are you just so full of **** that your fecal matter has condensed itself to the density of lead?
For your reference, you are saying you outweight This Man (http://www.sherdog.com/fightfinder/fightfinder.asp?fighterID=1500) by 40 pounds.

I agree that there are tons of frauds out there but just because someone trains in TKD, or something that's NOT BJJ or Muay Thai, doesn't make it ineffective! Now some people should be hanged for the BS they spread, like Ashida Kim. I know for a fact cause I used to have a few of his books many years ago. But while many here talk about those frauds, who are actually frauds, people are targeting those who are actually not frauds, like many of the reality combat experts out there, like MacYoung, Peyton Quinn, Richard Ryan, and many others, just because they don't practice sport oriented fighting arts. Many of these individuals, actually all of the ones I've just listed have been there and done that. They've protected themselves with the methods they teach, and so have many of the people they've taught. Be weary of any new "self-defense system" but also don't be so quick to judge somethign you don't fully understand. Just beause it's new to you doens't mean it wouldn't work in a fight. Learn about what you're proteesting against before you end up sticking your foot in your mouth. That's my take on it. That's the only problem I have with this forum. Do some freakin research before you go bashing someone who actually has some good ideas. Just because it’s not something that YOU think would work in you’re your own mind, doesn’t mean it won’t. Of course that statement doesn’t hold true for those idiots who promote chi power!

But length of study alone means nothing. I can claim to have studied Chinese classics for 20 years but if I still cannot quote Confucius or tell you what the "eight legged essay" (blarg, I think it's eight legged...) is, then I am not truly any better off in terms of knowledge due to my studying. I might have read books on electronics for a decade but if I cannot actually diagnose any electrical problems or fix any electronic equipment I am not qualified in electronics.
The reason that places that give out black belts quickly are criticized is not because of the fact that they give them out quickly but because of the fact that someone who is new to hand to hand combat in all probability cannot become proficient in such a short amount of time. If there were a place that could somehow make newcomers amazing fighers in a very short amount of time I don't think anyone here would take issue with that.
Finally, if we're talking about formal schools the amount of time spent will correlate with how much money you spent. If I went to study at a dojo that had a monthly fee, and I was enrolled there for 12 years, you would not be able to say anything about my hand to hand combat skills knowing only that. However, the one thing that you could be sure of is that I'd spent 12 dollars worth of fees. You might be and hopefully are a good fighter, but that is of course not guaranteed.
So, in fact, the *only* thing that we know for sure length of study at a formal school is linked to is the amount of money you spent.

Knife Fighter 03, i don't think i've seena school bashed that didn't make outrageous claims. Whether its attackproof's fatman beating down multiple trained pro NHB fighters (and teaching moves to get out of ANY grappling hold with genuine native american ground fighitng) or that guy kwooney posted who says he can cure cancer and send chi energy waves, they all have a very suspiciouse claim. In general, if they spar hard, they're probably ok. If not, how do they even knwo it works? If your thinking of a specific example, it would be nice to know so we could understand where your comign from
i think the big issue is:
if you claim you're a top notch fighter, then deny an open opportunity to test your skills somethings fishy......
best policy:
"don't write checks when there's not enough money in the bank"
this goes double for posting on websites nearly entirely comprised of fighters
