... What that experience(s) have done to your training and fighting style.
I'll start.
My first Throwdown is the infamous West Coast Rumble held in San Diego.
What I learned:
1. My grappling as a 2month newbie sucked ass.
About a month later after the fact, I started training almost daily.
2. My gas tank was ****.
I lost over 30lbs.
Next throwdown was Vancouver's 1st Throwdown
1. My grappling, while so much better from a year previous, still needs improvement. Especially from the bottom position.
When I start back up BJJ, I plan to work exclusively from bottom.
2. My gas tank has definately increased. I rolled quite a bit that day.
I do stairs quite a bit where I live. Has helped hugely.
3. My clinching and standup grappling was virtually non existent. Sure, I can do a double and single leg, but against another better trained fighter (Vargas) it was nulled.
My answer to it, I started Judo.
Both throwdowns, I had the fortune to train and receive advice from 2 more exprienced fighters. I can't tell you how valuable that is.
So, please join in and give me some input.
I'd like to put everyone's answer into an article, since I haven't put pen to paper for Phrost in a coon's age.
:)

Anthony what the hell are those fuckin kids in your av doing ?
One of them looks like hes saying "shut the ****..." the other one behind him appears to be chewing on an imaginary piece of food ? I think.

1) That many ppl get Suprised that CIMA actually is Different , and that there is something to it thats actualy Demonstratable , and that Drills like Push Hands actually are of Some Use , even if its NOT a replacement for Sparring , as some Tree-Huggers would have you Believe .
2) That there are some VERY Cool MA ppl in PA , and its given me some Leads on Possible Future Trainng Partners .
3) that Groundfighting is getting too Ubiquitous these days , and its basically the ONLY Stick by wich a Fighers worth is Measured - at least by most Bullshido members . Id like to see more ppl going MMA , or Standup . (or both)
4) that one of these days Im going to practically have to MURDER someone for many of you Schmucks to recognise that my Shits for real . Thats gonna be one REALLY unlucky Sumnbitch .
5) The better the level of Instructors you find at them , the better they tend to be Run .
6) Theres VERY little in the way of Respectable trainging/Training Partners within an Hour of me .

The only throwdown I've been to was the Vancouver one with you.
Vargas whispered to me that I should lead with my roundhouse, and it fuckin worked. Heheh.
I learned that I have a good pain tolerance for ankle locks.
I learned that I still got a good right hook.
I figured out a way to get the back from mount (which I later learned in class).
I can't remember anything else I learned... Except that Anthony gets smacked for rolling with his eyes closed.

I learned that grappling is even more fun than I thought it was. So, I bugged my coach to let us roll more. Which he did because he rocks! Hence my Grappling skill has gone through the roof since then. All from one poorly attended throwdown.
Also we didn't do enough mma and standup mostly because I think you have to trust your partners more to let them wail on you.

I hosted some Bullshidoka at my folks' house in CA while I was visiting in March and learned:
1. The Superman guard pass is cool, so is the ankle-hook guard break.
2. Aikido on the ground is TEH D34DL33 -- at least to the knees.
I also attended the NEPA Throwdown in early April and learned:
1. My grappling does work outside the dojo.
2. My gas tank needs a lot of work.
3. Broken toes are a pain in the arse (already knew that actually, but was reminded).
4. Too much talking gets annoying when you want to STFU and train.
5. The Mutt's campground is a nifty place to visit and train.

After participating in the NEPA Throwdown, I was reassured that the way I am training is the correct way to train and that because of the methods I am using, I will eventually be able to apply everything I know against a resisting opponent.
I learned that I am pretty mediocore on the ground.
I learned that the Mutt makes a mean roast pig.
I am more confident in working with folks I don't train with regularly, and motivated to continue to get better.

3) Most of the stuff on the forthcoming T.O. throwdown video is standup. Eat chain.
4) OH NOES! But what if they pull guard?

Toronto McThrowdown times two
What I learned? A combination between re-enforced and learned.
I don't know leglocks, thank you IronMung for putting a heel hook on me.
Didn't feel any pain from it either, my leg pain threshold is too high.
I have good combos, I just need to be more agressive.
Gas tank? Nah, none for me thanks. Lack of time, and injuries are keeping me from training as I'd like to.

Piz, the whole danger of the heel hook is that you feel nothing until the ligament rips.

I think it has been said on this forum, that anyone that puts a leg lock on a newbie is an asshole.
He was likely getting me back for dart kicking him and knocking him out for a split second.

Ironically, I've never been to a Toronto McT...
Main things I learned in ATL...
1) I can take a decent punch to the jaw without getting KTFO'd...
2) Better fighters make mistakes too.
3) Gotta start going harder on people I don't know...trust that they can take a decent hit.

The throwdown mainly reinforced what I already knew - that my grappling was decent, especially compared to my sucky standup. But I was happy to learn that three months of training was enough for me to at least feel comfortable sparring standup. I also realized all the areas of my game could stand a lot of improvement, but I knew that already, too.
