Knife-Wielding Robber Kicked by Gas Station Clerk
Police are searching for a man who tried to rob the Marathon, but the crime was thwarted by the gas station clerk — a mixed martial arts fighter
Police are looking for a man who may have swung a 6-inch blade at a Marathon gas station employee during an attempted robbery.
The cashier told police he was printing lottery tickets on Feb. 28, around 4:30 p.m., when a man leaned through the small opening at the counter and demanded that he fill a bag with money.
When the cashier refused, the man “lunged through the window in an attempt to stab” him, police said.
The knife was inches from the cashier—a mixed martial arts fighter—when he sprang back and kicked the invading arm, according to the cashier’s brother who also works at the gas station.
The would-be robber, who reportedly took off running southbound on Cicero from 151st Street, was described as black, wearing a goatee, between 30 and 40 years old, about 6-feet tall and weighing 190 pounds.
He was last seen inside the gas station wearing a gray stocking cap, sunglasses, black leather jacket and black gloves.
