I was curious if anyone who actually owns and operates their own studio/dojo could tell me the following:

1.) What style(s) do you teach.
2.) How many active students do you have - Kids/Adults.
3.) What you charge for lessons - Kids/Adults.
4.) What you pay for rent.
5.) Any other forms of generating revenue that you use.
6.) Any other expenses that you typically have (besides utilities).
7.) How do you advertise (word of mouth, newspaper, flyers...)

Thanks

PS - I only titled this McDojo question because I wasn't sure what to call the topic - I am not implying that I think people who respond are McDojo's! I am just curious what others are doing.

Sounds like he wants a formula for opening a school...

This one should be moved to the McDojo section. What you are asking is very relative to the area that you are living. Including myself there are several owner/operator/head instructors. Despite my antics if you are serious I'd be glad to help.

I agree that it is relative to the area - but would still like to see what is going on in any part of the country (world).

If people want to add what location they teach from that is fine.

Well where I live The average small house cost in excess of $600,000, and a pull of 167,000 people. Considering that a typical 1% of the population in any community enrolls in Martial arts at any given point that leaves 1,670 people to devide amongst 12 active schools. Only 3 of these, including mine, are full time.

We are a Multi Tier school with 8 martial arts being taught at one time.
SAMBO, Kung-fu, Taekwondo, Muay thai, Hapkido, Jujitsu, Weapons, and Shootfighting (I don't believe I missed any)
Unlimited enrollement is $75 per month (avg in our city is $180)
Truthfully I've never counted our students and I don't have my records here at home but the percentage of children to adults are 70/30.
Word of mouth is our strongest from of advertisement but we do several misc flyers over the years and put on demos and special seminars.
I do private lessons and seminars to supplement my income and we do some retail....

Michael,

When you say you do those styles at one time, do you mean as one combined style or all of those classes going on at the same time?
