Karate girl, 11, fights off attacker in Bristol

AN 11-year-old girl used her karate skills to fight off a man who attacked her as she was walked to school.

Jade Pidden noticed a man following her in a secluded lane in Stockwood. The brave schoolgirl tried to run away but the man grabbed her by her rucksack, and that's when Jade's three years of karate training kicked in.

She used all her strength to elbow him in the chest and punch him in the face, causing her shocked attacker to flee. Jade has been practising karate for three years at the Bristol Martial Arts Academy, in Hengrove, Bristol.

The attacked has been described as white, 6ft tall, slim, in his early 20s, with light brown hair and a long fringe. I don't know how they got this but police said he was wearing a blue hoodie with white writing, tight jeans and black and white Nike trainers. He might be holding one hand to his eye as well.

Anyone with information should contact the authorities through the local police department or anonymously on Crimestoppers 0800 555111.

Karate as it was meant to be, punching people in the face. Fair play to her.

I've yet to see a Kyokushin dojo that doesn't train face punches...

Anyhow, no matter what this girl trains in, I'm glad this young girl is safe!

Good for her! You go girl! Must have been terrifying for the wee girl even so.

Hope they catch the perpetrator soon - he sounds like a very dangerous man.

Sweet! I think most people(females especially) should learn to defend themselves against these kinds of a-holes.

Obviously, that girl is pretty bad ass,
but let us take a moment to reflect on what a looser her attacker is.
(pauses for a moment, does the math)

Attacking a little girl, -50 points.
Getting beaten up by a little girl, -25 points.
Doing both of the above, while wearing skinny jeans, -25 points.

Damn. That is a thorough looser.

Its a good thing she didn't train ninjutsu or he would have suffered a broken spine after she took him down with a deadly wrist lock, and a good think she didn't train chun because he would have died from a thousand foom fooms.

But seriously, good on her. I wonder how much of that was her training. If it was her training and not just the fighting instinct that I think we're all born with that kicks in when you need to fight for your life, she must have trained at a damn good school.

I noticed in the article that it mentioned the girl is brown belt and looking at doing her black belt exam in March. This site warns (somewhere, I forget) to look out for martial arts schools with child black belts, but this article brings up a bone of contention. If an 11 year old girl, who has trained for 3 years is able to fend off an adult attacker with probably 50 to 100 pounds more and probably twice the height and reach, can she not be said to be as skilled as an adult who just got their black belt? (Assuming the same length of time training for the adult).

Even if her assailant is the total ***** that he obviously is (as Ashkuff pointed out), that is still very impressive.
