It looks like approximately 20 members of what used to be called SEAL team 6 died in a helicopter Crash in Afghanistan, after the Chinook was shot down. Steve Robinson asked me to post this.

Sam,

Yes… sad indeed. If you happen to discuss the matter with your mates on BULLSHIDO, may I humbly ask you to say two things for me? (1) Contact the National Navy UDT SEAL Museum to convey your words of condolence, regret, and sympathy as that organization is the most appropriate for recording the history and the legacy of the SEAL Teams. (2) For those wishing to express their grief and condolences in a more substantial manner, please consider making a donation to the NAVY SEAL FOUNDATION which provides aid and assistance to the families of fallen Navy SEALs.

Thanks, brother!

Steve

A disturbing read. The BBC have only reported a US SF Team was brought down with 31 dead but it was unclear whether it was from enemy action nor was the SF team specified.

The USA is frequently a more Open Society than us in the UK so it's probably no great surprise that you would be more willing to report the tragedy than we would.

It will provide scant comfort to remind you that the SAS lost 20+ in a helicopter incident in The Falklands Campaign 1982. In unit terms, a tremendous loss. For the SEALS an equally tragic loss.

Commiserations.
