Has anybody done one of these 3 mile runs with obstacles? I'm signed up to do one and would like some advice about what I need to work on, besides running obviously, from people who have done these before.
I'm running in the carolina's one in august, http://www.warriordash.com/

I've done one called the Mud Run but that was more of a military thing, so no fun Viking helmets or anything. There was small walls to climb, a bunch of mud you had to crawl through to avoid wires, and part of it was through a lake.

One of my students is thinking about doing The Spartan Race (http://www.spartanrace.com/ottawa-obstacle-racing-spartan-sprint.html)
There's one coming up in KC this summer and I'm planning on being there. If anyone else in the area wants to meet up, let me know.

The Tough Mudder (http://toughmudder.com/) makes all of those look like a sunday stroll in the park. One of the guys from our gym and one of the guys from my office did it this past year. I know a couple of other people that do Warrior Dash pretty regularly. I personally don't run unless something serious is chasing me...
Just might see you there depending on school Phrost.

I don't usually run unless a very large person with knife is after me either. I am just hoping to finish this thing with some dignity. It's just giving me something to work toward. 3 miles shouldn't kill me, anyway.

love to be there
I just did the Tough Mudder in Vermont this past weekend and that was the most fun I ever had. It took longer than the other Mudder events since this one was all uphill and downhill and was more a test of will power than endurance for me. Especially when it came to diving into freezing cold water.
For the most part I'd say be able to run a half marathon and just have a good strength to bodyweight ratio. Most I ran before this race was eleven miles and the course was ten miles. I did lifting months prior, but a month before the race I focused on the standard push ups, pull ups and chin ups. One thing to keep in mind is whether you're on a team or not you're not doing the Tough Mudder alone. Each obstacle the person in front of you helps pull you up or hold a net or whatever, and then you'll help the person behind you.
Overall I did pretty well. Now I'm looking into doing some of the harder Spartan Races or a harder Tough Mudder.

The one in Indiana is just over three hours away from Dayton and I believe that is in late Aug.
