Wrong as usual. I'm very interested in human intelligence and how personal intelligence impacts people's live. I'm also very interested in understanding my personal strengths and limitations.
As a result of that interest, I know exactly how smart I am. I have an IQ of 130, which puts me in the 97th or 98th percentile but about 10 points shy of genius.
Do you know yourself that well?
I bet you don't understand how ironic this is.

You're right. I don't. Please explain.

Seeing how "genius" is usually considered 164+ you are actually quite far from it.
All an IQ reperesents is a person's capacity to (1) acquire knowledge, (2) apply knowledge , and (3) engage in abstract reasoning.
Sadly being a person of a high IQ I can tell you in the end it doesn't really mean much. Sure I get things quicker then other people and can see relationships between bits of knowledge much more clearly that others but this in of itself doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things. All it really means is I have to work less hard in school and have an edge in fields where analysis is needed.

Different tests have different scales for scoring. The membership requirement for Mensa is 98th percentile on one of several standardized tests. 130 on the tests I'm referring to is 97th percentile.
IQ Scores & Ratings
What is a good IQ score? What is a high IQ score? What is a low IQ score? These are common questions, particularly after someone finds out their score from an IQ test.
Lewis Terman (1916) developed the original notion of IQ and proposed this scale for classifying IQ scores:
Over 140 - Genius or near genius
120 - 140 - Very superior intelligence
110 - 119 - Superior intelligence
90 - 109 - Normal or average intelligence
80 - 89 - Dullness
70 - 79 - Borderline deficiency
Under 70 - Definite feeble-mindedness
Like I said, knowing where I stand isn't only about knowing my strengths, it's about knowing my limitations as well.
You're right that IQ doesn't mean much by itself. If you're intelligent and you just lay around on your ass, you're not going to get anywhere. I understand that completely. IQ is about potential. It can be utilized or wasted.
But if you're fortunate enough to be gifted and you have the willpower to work hard and make use of it, then a high IQ is a huge advantage in life. Just like with fighting. Natural athletic ability isn't going to guarantee you a win. But if all other things are held to be equal, you're much better off with it than without it.
By the way, Terman considered classifying Under 70 as "W. Rabbit"

Couple of things here, one Mensa has their own test you take they do not rely on an IQ test. Mensa's test ironically is one of the most culturally biased of test if I recall correctly.
Two if you took an IQ test anytime recently it is very unlikely that it was Termans as it has been out of vogue for quite some time.
One can have a high IQ and a good work ethic and still not be successful.
The problem with the IQ test is it really only test abstract analytical skills.
While these are good skills to have they do not speak to the volumes of other skills people need for success.
They speak nothing for language skills or people skills, most certainly not creativity.
The truth about it is they give people in your range of IQ an inflated sense of self with out much reason really.
Also for the record the fact that you seem to exhibit what most people would call black & white thinking would show that you are severally lacking in emotional intelligence. The world my friend is filled with all sorts of shades of gray its rarely so clear cut and precise.
Way to not know what you're talking about! Nice job!
From Mensa's website:
Qualifying test scores
American Mensa accepts scores from approximately 200 different standardized intelligence tests*. Often potential members have taken acceptable tests at other times in their lives and don't realize they may already qualify for membership.
No, the IQ tests I've taken were not Terman's. They were using the scale he recommended. Many valid IQ tests use that scale. Many don't.
Do you just make up the facts as you go along based on how well they support your arguments?
I've already acknowledged that IQ isn't a reliable predictor of success. I'm not sure what else you're looking for me to say about that.

Describing your intelligence as an absolute. Check.
Lying about your IQ on the Internet. Check.
Thinking people care about your IQ. Check.
Cutting and pasting crap about IQ scales and Mensa requirements as if it immediately supports your lies about your IQ. Check.
Claiming the ability to ascertain the potential brainpower of other people. Check.
Insulting the intelligence of people who point out your logical fallacies. Check.
Name dropping Mensa, as if they are the only collection of smart people with lofty membership requirements. Check.
Summary:
You are exhibiting all the classic signs of a self-deluded egomaniac with delusions of grandeur.
Oh, and my IQ is higher than yours by double digits.

He is missing the fact that the reason IQ isn't considered (by actual smart people) to mean much is that yes, IQ is a very outdated form of intelligence metric, and there are many other sides to intelligence that the modern psychology field considers just as important as what IQ measures.
Emotional intelligence and empathy....good example Good. Something people with high IQs are often completely devoid of, which works against their supposed "intelligence quotient".
Absolutism, like that displayed by Devil here, is one of the chief indicators of someone missing other important facets of "intellect".
But he'll deny it, because he probably considers everyone under his IQ inferior, intellectually.
Silly Rabbit - I would bet a year's salary your IQ is less than 100. And if IQ tests are so meaningless, why are you taking them?
People who say IQ tests are meaningless are people who don't get the desired results when they take them. Like poor people who say money doesn't matter.

Goodlun really nailed it on the head with the black and white comment.

The true nature of things can usually be determined when given careful thought. But it takes more effort than many people are willing to give. It's much easier to throw your hands up and declare that there's no right or wrong answer.
Oh it's definitely the true mark of a genius (or near-genius) to bust out anecdotal mensa test scores after utterly failing to display any sort of logical argument, resorting to nothing but ad hominem from the moment their pathetic excuse for a position was challenged. See you on the flip side.
/unsubscribed as well
It is Fake
1/31/2011 2:15pm,
You know what? We have an actual Mensa member posting and he never resorted to IQ BS to bolster his argument.
Funny how there are multiple threads with near Genius level and lower IQ test posters that constantly refer to it in threads.

Lol. Think about this.....I clearly have a healthy ego and can be quite snobbish about certain things. If I were going to lie about my IQ, do you think I would give a number as low as 130? Nope.
And again, your lack of reading comprehension is evident. I didn't bust out a mensa test score. I've never submitted a test to mensa or made an effort to be involved with mensa. I wouldn't qualify. I gave the scoring requirements for mensa because someone disputed that 140 is a genius level IQ.
Seriously, you motherfuckers who can't understand written words make a conversation extremely difficult. I have to type everything twice. Once to say it in a manner non-idiots can understand, and then again to translate it to your level. Tiresome.
Also, it takes a special kind of ***** to jump into a thread, hurl a comment, then run away and hide before a response can be made.

Clearly.
It's much easier to throw your hands up and declare that there's no right or wrong answer.
And yet several of these fence-straddling buffoons who can't comprehend right or wrong have chimed in to say that you are wrong.
