Actually, to fend off a freaking *polar bear*.

I wish that there were video of this.

I used to have one of those (purportedly) Special Forces survival guide books when I was a kid and I remember that there was a section about how to survive vs. bear. It mentioned that if grabbed by a bear, one should attempt to gouge the eyes, gouge the nose/toungue/throat, bite, scratch and even kick it in the balls. I remember thinking 'Duh. Like that would do anything except piss it off even more...".

Yet again, seagulls have proven me wrong.

Tough bird. May its gametes be vigorous and its offspring numerous.

Seagull > Seagal.

Seagull lives life on the frontline. Seagal tells everyone that he has.

Weapon immobilization.
Atemi-waza. (protip: a gull's 'fists' would be about halfway down the wing)
Circular movements.
Attempts at you-push-i-pull/you-pull-i-push.

Cool. I'll bet that their fights resembled the above vid. Though with more tug-o-war to keep out of wingbeating range...
