YouTube - MMA reporter gets pepper sprayed (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKIXATO72Fw&feature=player_embedded)

I know that guy! Well, I don't, but I've got his phone number...
Anyway, I think this speaks well of MMA fighters and gyms. No “death match” bullshit, no “defending my honor” bullshit, no “my pepper spray is too deadly” bullshit, just a friendly gathering and some pepper spray to the face. As Cary Grant said in The Philadelphia Story, “Ah, that's the old redhead. No bitterness, no recrimination, just a good swift left to the jaw.”
The fact that folks remained in good spirits and exercised their senses of humor speaks well of everyone involved.
Ow. I felt bad for you Pete. You kept re-rubbing your face with the pepper side of the towel! Hilariously painful.
Stop betting now.

LoL, oh man the surprise aspect was the worst part. I'm curious, does opening your eyes actually help when your pepper sprayed?

Background please?
edit: nm. but is Lampa obnoxious or something? idgi
So, as far as rubbing my eyes, spreading it around with water, and just about everything else I made all the wrong moves and prolonged my suffering as much as possible. This was neither on purpose nor out of ignorance. When you get surprised you tend to go with your gut reaction rather than what you know is the right thing to do.
For background, I've been writing about Coach Sansonetti's team for some time now. You can check out the Team Renegade articles at US Combat Sports in the mid-atlantic section. It's pretty cool, most of these guys were really built from the ground up.
Anyways, I mentioned after an interview just hanging out that I had been tazed in college and done all manner of other stuff just to see what it's like, but never pepper spray. And he asked if I wanted to. And I said okay, but as Mr. Sansonetti is this kind of guy, he wanted to make it a gentleman's bet rather than me just walking into it. So, if the Team Captain Ben Syers won his next fight, I would take the spray.
For the record, I was actually pretty confident that Ben could pull it off, having watched him train. But, if I was going to do it anyway, no harm in letting it be an extra incentive for him. And here we are.

I've never been this amused watching a guy take it in the face. This looks like fun and I'd be up for experiencing it sometime. Lampa bro I think you'd look better with a haircut.

Nope. Makes it start hurting all over again. You'll think you're fine and then open your eyes. Not very fun.

The coup de grace would have been a nice kick in the nuts immediately after being sprayed. Keep that in mind for the next time you lose a bet.

Reminded me of the time in USMC boot camp when the DIs made the slow guy look for a piece of red gravel on the bottom of the Quonset hut. CS had snot running to his knees.
Props to you Lampa.

Next time make Lampa take a bunch of PCP before you pepper spray him for a true stress test.
So Lampa, how long did it take before the pepperspray's biggest effects wore off, and how long before you totally didnt feel a thing anymore?
Just curious.
Also: Is there such a thing you can do to make the effects wear off quicker?
Opening your eyes doesnt sound logical, but perhaps warm water or something?

There are "decontamination" wipes available from a few different sources. They come in packets like wet naps, we kept some in the booking area and I know they had them on the ambulance.
They don't work much better than mixing no more tears baby shampoo with water and a little sugar.
Either one will work a lot better than water alone. Opening your eyes doesn't really help unless you flush them. Recovery time unaided is usually 30-45 minutes, wipes or baby shampoo can cut it in half.
For the record, do not pour pepper on anything you plan on eating for at least several hours, it'll kick the spray back in.

Lampa, I couldn't help but cringe when I watched the video. Never having experienced that myself, it looked absolutely excruciating.
I believe I would stop betting at this point.

Biggest effects wore off in about 30 minutes. By 45 minutes the areas just felt a little sensitive but no real pain.
Though, funny story. My luxurious head of hair can retain a lot of it in crystalline form after I thought I was out of the woods. Took a shower that night and got a full-body hot pepper surprise.

water is actually no good for rucing the effect of pepper...this is why water does not help with hot foods made of peppers. Milk does a better job.
