This is a small museum in the town of Belfast, NY, dedicated to the sport of bare-knuckle pugilism. The museum is actually headquartered in the training barns where John L. Sullivan trained for his world title fight against Jake Kilrain back in the 1880s. Apparently they just closed the place up after the fight and it was left "as is" right through the 20th century, so visitors to the museum can see Sullivan's equipment and other artifacts pretty much just as they were left there.

Sounds and looks like a great piece of combat sports history and I'll definitely check it out if I'm ever close by.

That's pretty cool. I like the pugilist statue they've got in front of the building.

Some videos showing the reconstruction of the training barns into a museum, including a lot of history, shots of the training equipment, etc.

The Yahoo BKB group just posted some pics of the museum and some gear, but I didn't see any of the training device pics on their site. There was some Indian clubs and a bunch of old canes with a shilelagh in the mix.

Thanks for this. I look forward to accessing the pics cos at the moment it's taking ages to download.

Anyway, thanks again.

I had the same problem with the very image-heavy pages on their site; I think it might be something they need to tweak.
