All right, who watched that movie? What do you guys think about it?

My favorite character by far is Zé Pequeno.

I just loved it. It may be the best movie I ever saw. And yes, I am feeling quite patriotic about it (paradoxically, I know).

Heya WCLawyer,

I haven't seen it, yet, but this movie is definitely near the top of my must-see list.

Go watch it, itīs worth it. Not for the kids, though.

Gee, it seems no one here saw that movie. Thatīs a shame.

I've seen it. Being that I'm from the Philippines, where poverty is very common, I could relate to the struggles that many of the characters had to go through.

I'm in Japan, as far as I know it isn't really showing here outside of the ocassional film festival that I'd never be able to goto.

I'll catch it when I get back to the states and it is on video.

Heard nothing but good things.

Here in the United States, where we are told that millions of people are starving every day, our average so called poverty stricken family has a car, 3 TVs, 2 VCRs, a DVD player, and gets to eat more than my family because of our "bullshit" foodstamp program. Every month the 300 lb. woman of the house goes to the welfare office to get more food stamps because she and her obese children are obviously starving to death. In fact, it is not uncommon to go to the store and get behind someone in the checkout line that buys potato chips, ice cream, soft drinks, and pretty much every unhealthy food imaginable, paying for it all with Foodstamps. Then the throw down cash to buy 3 cases of beer and 2 cartons of cigarettes.
In our society it is hard for some people to imagine how hard others have it. I am not one of them though. Unlike most people, I am very thankful for what I have and I am sympathetic to the struggle that others face in their lives.
I can't wait to see the film. Unfortunatly, my wife, like most americans, won't sit through a foreign language film. I will be watching it alone.:(

Never heard about it. Some of the actors may have aided in his campaign, though.

By the way, a curiosity: in the whole movie there is ONLY ONE professional actor, the guy who plays Cenoura. All others are people from shantytowns in Rio de Janeiro.

PS: Jolly Roger, I sent you a PM.

I thought this movie rocked. Lots of good action, but it was actually GOOD too.

Thatīs a real pity. The movie itself is great, even if you donīt take the realistic depiction of violence into account. Post your opinions after you see it!

Great movie watched it a couple of times, last weekend actually.
Benny is my favourite character, because he's "the coolest hood in the City of God".
On the dvd there is also a documentary that gives a great insight into the situation, more so than any work of fiction ever could, so if you get a chance definately watch it if you can.
